John Gelsinger 08Scott R.C. Levy, Director

Scott Levy is the producing artistic director of Penobscot Theatre, Bangor’s professional theatre company. For Penobscot Theatre he has directed Picasso at the Lapin Agile, A Christmas Carol, Almost, Maine, Tuesdays With Morrie, I Am My Own Wife, The Ruby Sunrise, Driving Miss Daisy, Peter Pan and the upcoming The Night of the Iguana. He has performed in the Penobscot Theatre productions of Little Shop of Horrors, Falsettos and The Santaland Diaries.

Levy has directed shows off and off-off Broadway, regionally and at the New York International Fringe Festival. As a performer, Levy has performed extensively in New York City, in London (Shakespeare's Globe), at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and across the United States (over 60 cities). As a producer, Levy has worked on and off Broadway, on national tours and internationally. He was the co-producer of the Playwrights Horizons Theater School/NYU, where he taught voice, directing and producing and was a teaching artist with the Guggenheim Museum in NYC and at the Graffiti Youth Theatre in Cork, Ireland. He holds an MA in Educational Theatre and a BFA in Acting, both from New York University.

Since arriving at Penobscot Theatre in June of 2005, Levy has been on the faculty at the University of Maine, is a vice chair of the Greater Bangor Convention and visitors bureau, a board member of the Bangor Center Corporation and a steering committee member of Fusion:Bangor. Additionally, he has received a TCG observership grant and Fusion Bangor’s first-ever Horizon Award. Levy lives in Bangor with his wife Joye and their daughter Ellie Violet.
