Musical Theater Summer Camp

NMT Theater Campers This summer NMT presented day camps for kids ages 6–9,10–13, and 14–18. Campers had a chance to perform through singing, acting, and dancing; participate in costume, make-up, and set design workshops, and be a vital member of the entire creative ensemble.

Does your child love music and want to be a performer? We offer kids the opportunity to perform in a real theater under the tall pines in Northport, Maine.

Check back early 2012 for more info on how to get your child involved in our popular day camps.

Bugsy Malone Junior

Book by Alan Parker
Lyrics by Paul Williams
Music by Paul Williams

Camp Director – Mary Cuskelly

This popular pint-sized, pin-striped classic will leap off the silver screen and onto the NMT stage for the summer musical theater camp show for kids aged 10–13. This wild and wacky musical is a tongue–in–cheek tribute to the 1920s gangster flick and includes a child's dream come true: a classic pie fight fought with "splurge blasters" which spew forth "silly string" instead of pies resulting in delightfully messy fun! The catchy, swinging score is by the composer of The Muppet Movie and also includes a chorus with a cast of youngsters that play all the parts. It seems Fat Sam, who runs one of the most popular clubs in town, is in danger of being closed down by his "business rival" Dandy Dan. Enter baby–faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam. Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah – though he's set his designs on showgirl Blousey Brown. Originally written for children, Bugsy Malone Junior is a wonderful showcase for talented young performers and an entertaining way to explore and to learn about Prohibition and the Roaring Twenties.

Into The Woods Junior

Book by James Lapine
Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim
Music by Stephen Sondheim

Camp Director – Kim Murphy

Into the Woods Junior is an engaging and funny musical comedy that twists familiar fairy tales into a brand new story. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a quest for the special objects required to break the spell; swindling, deceiving and stealing from Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk)! Showcasing a medium-sized ensemble of talented singers and actors with unforgettable roles and a sophisticated score, Into the Woods Junior is a delightful way to get young people to think about the stories with which they've grown up, and the ethical issues raised therein.
